PE and Sports 2020 - 2021

We at Saviour believe that physical activity not only improves health, reduces stress and improves concentration, but also promotes correct physical growth and development.  Exercise has a positive influence on academic achievement, emotional stability and interaction with others.

Our aim is that; through physical education we teach and develop physical competence, an appreciation of skilled and creative performances, and understanding of basic principles of ‘fair play’ and improve inter personal skills.

Saviour provides many opportunities for children in and outside of school to compete in sport and other activities which enable them to build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.

We are delighted to announce that we, Saviour, have achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2018/19 academic year. The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

Our sporting achievements this year include Cross Country, Inspire Multisport Festival, Tennis, Change4Life Festival, Swimming Gala, Netball, Archery and Hockey. Next year we aim to build on this and offer even more! Well done everybody.

Skipping workshop

On the 6th February, Reception to Year 6 took part in a skipping workshop getting the children ready for National Skipping day on Friday 24th April. This will be the eighteenth annual National Skipping Day organised by Skipping Workshops. The main theme for this year was to 'promote playground skipping'. The children had a fantastic time and learnt new skills and tricks when skipping.
A child from Year 4 said, 'The way to skip is to do the penguin arms', another child said, 'I will try skipping in the free play zone because it is a fun activity that everyone can do.'

Kevin Metzger visits Saviour

During Sport Relief week, Kevin Metzger came to Saviour and held a dynamic fitness circuit for the pupils and conducted an inspirational assembly including a demonstration of his sport, with the aim of inspiring the children to lead a healthier lifestyle. In preparation for Kevin's visit, the children were asked to get sponsored for their fitness circuit by family and friends. We are proud to announce that the children raised £691! Well done to all who took part!

Basketball Inspire

On 20th January, 9 of our Key Stage 2 children took part in a Basketball Inspire competition. The children played incredibly well and won the award for best team work. Well done to all the players!

Basketball Excel

Our first excel basketball competition was a huge success. The 10 children from Key Stage 2 whom took part in the Excel Basketball competition performed incredibly well. Throughout the tournament, we had shown an amazing amount of resilience and learnt a lot of lessons as the games went by. As a team, we really grew and the best part of tournament was watching the children continue to play until we were the last ones there.

Well done to all the children who participated in the tournament; they represented the school with great pride and showed thoughtful support to all the schools in their matches.

Dodgeball

Another first for Saviour! The dodgeball excel competition could not have gone any better. We came first and won every match. There were 9 other school competing in the competition and we played amazingly! We could not be any prouder of our dodgeball team. Bring on the Manchester finals!

Hockey

The children again demonstrated their fantastic teamwork as they worked together to win every single game of the Hockey tournament to secure their place in the final! Well done!
